The anesthesia is a state of temporary insensitivity to the sensation of pain It is accomplished through the use of medicines called anesthetics. Anesthesia is commonly used in surgical and medical procedures to reduce or eliminate pain and allow the patient to undergo a procedure without discomfort or pain. Anesthesia can be local, regional or general, depending on the type of procedure and the needs of the patient. Local anesthesia is administered to the area of the body to be treated and numbs only that part of the body. Regional anesthesia is given to one region of the body, such as a limb, and numbs the entire region. General anesthesia is administered intravenously or inhaled and renders the patient unconscious so that they do not feel pain or are aware of the procedure. Anesthesia is a complex procedure that requires specialized skills and experience on the part of the anesthesiologist or administering physician to ensure safe and effective results.
